IN HARMS WAY, Doug Stanton

The sinking of the USS Indianapolis by a Japanese Submarine, and the extrodinary story of its survivors.

Riviting account of the torpedo attack and the rapid (11 minutes) sinking of the infamous WWII Battle Cruiser.

First hand account of survival of 317 shipmates adrift for five days at sea some  with only their kapok life preserver few with any water or emergency food. Fight off sharks, hypothermia, starvation and dehydration it is a miracle that any of the 1196 crew survived at all.

A good read at 286 pages (in keeping with my under 300 rule).  I read picked this one up on Saturday and finished Monday evening, hard to put down.
