1st Sherman story page Mar 5, 2016 5:37 AM
I just completed an experimental first page of a book capturing USCG Sherman's 1970 Vietnam history. My inspiration being "A Sailor's Story" and "Zero" (See include links to the inspirational authors influencing my plans at the bottom)
I am fortunate to have collected a lot of the Sherman's early history, with the help of the ship's crew and officers. I'm counting on your feedback and support as I share drafts! Your comments, suggestions, corrections are welcome. If you have additional sea stories and photos from the early years, please share them! The more participation the better and more complete our story .. our history.
I want to thank the three crew members that contributed to this first page. The artwork and text is based on Sherman Newsletter #5 written by Captain Paul Lutz and illustrated by our ships very talented artist Manny Angeles AEC retired. I also want to thank Jack Schneider BM3 for providing me with a notarized copy of his personal journal documenting the four years he served on the Sherman.
Another important reason for this posting so I can make a public commitment to write / draw a history book for our years on the Sherman and share it with crew members on the Sherman Website and Facebook. Sometimes I need some encouragement maybe even a kick in the butt .. I want to have a published copy to hand crew members at an upcoming Sherman reunion!
So In addition to this Photo Album, I will be posting to a new and updated Sherman Reunion page on Face Book becuase face book event pages see much more traffic and very easy to makes comments!
