Greetings from the Arctic.
I thought I would check in and let you know that as of right now we still on track for a decommissioning right at the end of March, probably about the 30th. I believe they are just working to finalize the date.
We have been keeping very busy up here in the Arctic and she is still running well with no lost ops days, thanks to the hard work of the Engineers. At the bottom of the e-mail are a couple of articles on our endeavors up here.

We reserved a block of 60 rooms. As you can see on the Sherman Reunion Facebook event page we have 49 going and 61 maybes! More people planning on going than we have rooms available. If you are serious about attending please register ASAP. The hotel registration does not charge your card and can be canceled up to the day before the event!

The Sherman Reunion Newsletter is here! ... Took a lot of work to get to this point. The Newsletter is not just the writing on the pages .. but represents the actual nuts and bolts planning of the reunion itself, decisions, scheduling and verification documentation of that the information, and is as accurate as possible. And that said, I expect to be posting updates, modifications and corrections as the plan matures and the details are worked out!
The Newsletter has all the information about the reunion and the REGISTRATION FORM (on page 7)
Be very careful filling out your events, meal choices, the tours you want and totalling the costs. It's a lot of work for our treasurer when totals don't add up... Please get it right the first time!
There are three separate tours offered .. they are optional if you need to keep costs down, the Registration fee is required and you really should attend the Banquet! .. the tours are first come, first serve and if not enough people sign up for any one of the the tours that tour will be cancelled and your money refunded. JJ and I went all the tours had fun, a lot "Bang for the Buck", JJ and I agreed our week in Portland, The CONFAM, the Hotel, the Tours, the food, was the best vacation either of us had in a long time! The tours are great way to spend a day with your shipmates and crew members. I hope to write more about the CONFAM and Portland area in the coming months.
The Reunion newsletter / registration is stored in "Documents" click tab at the top of this page ..the the PDF is at the very bottom of the document page 2 or
STEP 1. Call the hotel and make your reservations for the days you want to attend. The room rate of $84 is good for June 7-11, 2015 and 3 days before and after those dates. You will need a credit card to register. Nothing will be posted against your card ... You pay when you check out of the hotel after the event. More details in the newsletter. If you need clarification please contact me.
STEP 2. Fill out the registration form. Double check your figures. Send the form and you check to the Sherman Assn. Treasurer. May be a good idea to make a copy of your registration for your records.
Step 3. This may be step one if you are flying into Portalnd and not sure of flights and arrival times. Save Money! - Book early! Portland is one of the top 15 airports in the US, some of the best airfares and all major carriers with direct flights from most major citys. The Merry Manor Hotel is minutes from the airport and offers Free transportation to and from the Portland International Jetport using taxi’s. The hotel will reimburse the guest's Taxi on the way in to the hotel and will prepay for taxi’s for the trip back to the Airport.
Again any questions about the reunion after reading the newsletter ... respond to this posting or contact me, If I don't know the answer I will find out and get back to you!

I also posted this photo on the Sherman Reunion Face Book Event page.
The Portland Maine CONFAM reunion planners hosted by Sharon Danitschek of the Reunion Friendly Network and Don Haggett - Merry Manor Inn. Our military planners stopped at the Cape Neddick Light house as part of our Kennebunkport bus tour. More about the (3) Tours that will be offered at our Portland Maine 2015 Sherman reunion coming soon!
What is a CONFAM? here is RFN's definition: "A typical ConFAM© agenda includes education, networking, small group problem solving, and one-on-one business appointments with hospitality professionals. In addition, at each event a tour of the local area showcases reunion-friendly attractions along with excellent accommodation options for your event. It is a great way to select and contract your next reunion location!"

USCGC Sherman Assn. Reunion planners, Myself, John J O'Neil and Russ Allyson attended the Reunion Friendly Network's (RFN) CONFAM June 1 - June 6, 2014 at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn in S. Portland, ME.. Portland is known as Longfellow’s “little city by the sea”, Portland, Maine laid out her abundant sights for us to see.Portland Head Light, the Old Port Exchange, the Victoria Mansion and the Portland Observatory were just a few among them. We also visited the historic Maine Maritime Museum. Maine is famous for its unique cuisine and we did not miss out. We enjoyed dinner at DiMillo’s Restaurant, the largest floating restaurant on the east coast, and feasted on fresh Maine lobster at Foster’s Downeast Clambake in York, Maine. The purpose CONFAM is to familiarize planners with the local area's history, events, hotels, dining, attractions as well as training new and experienced planners in best practices. We were very impressed with RFN's president
Sharon Danitschek's expertise and planner training and the hospitality of our Portland business sponsors:
Best Western Merry Manor Inn - Don Haggett
Clarion Hotel Portland - Heather Lavesque
Hamptom Inn - Cheryl Delisle
Holiday Inn by the Bay - Sally Page
